DRY Amboyna Burl Wood Block for Knife Handles

Amboyna burl is the material makers save for the knife they actually want to keep. Birds eye clusters, swirling figure and a deep reddish-orange that no stain reproduces — it is one of the few handle woods that looks expensive before it is even shaped.

Thick enough to cut into a bookmatched pair, so one block builds a full tang knife with the figure mirrored across both scales. Or leave it solid and shape a hidden tang handle from the block.

About the photographs: the pieces are shown sanded to 120 grit only. That is deliberate — it is an honest look at the raw grain. Take it up through the higher grits and the burl does something 120 grit cannot show you: the figure gains depth and appears to move under the light.

Burl is unpredictable by nature, which is the point. No two blocks carry the same pattern, so blocks are sent at random and every handle built from them is genuinely one of a kind.
