G10 & Micarta Knife Scales
G10 and micarta knife scales for knifemakers, in matched pairs cut oversize so you have material to shape. G10 material is fibreglass laminated in resin under high pressure: the toughest handle material we stock, fully waterproof and stable through heat, cold and solvents. Our compact laminate (paper micarta) is layered paper bonded in resin the same way: dense, strong, indifferent to water and easy to sand and polish.
G10 or micarta material?
Micarta material is linen, canvas or paper set in resin; paper micarta gives a fine, even surface. G10 is harder and fully waterproof, the usual choice for a knife that will get wet, cold or dropped. Both are synthetics that never need stabilizing and never swell around a pin. Shape them on a belt grinder rather than a saw, and wear a mask: G10 dust is fibreglass.
