A block sized specifically for Japanese style chef knife handles. At 25 x 30 mm (1.0 x 1.2 in) in section it is close to the finished dimensions of a wa handle, so there is very little wood to remove — you are shaping, not hogging material away.

A dense African hardwood, close to black with brown grain running through it. The open pores leave a naturally textured feel in the hand that no finish quite sands away.

Heavy and hard, so it suits a chef knife where a little weight in the handle balances a long blade.

Also works for puukko handles and pen blanks. The 140 mm (5.5 in) length covers a full size chef handle with room to trim, and the square-ish section drills cleanly for a hidden tang.

Each piece is selected, cut and sanded by hand so the grain is visible before you start. Air dried and stable, ready to work.
